Distinct和distinctive之间有什么区别？

谢谢高松的提问。Distinct 和 distinctive 这两个词在拼写上很相近，但各自有不同的含义。这两个词基本上是不能互换的。先让我们做一下词义辨析。

Distinct 是形容词，它有两个主要的含义，第一个是“非常清晰的、确实存在的”。比如：There is a distinct smell of tobacco in the room. 房间里有一股香烟味。
在这里，distinct 表示这个味道是非常清晰，明确地来自香烟，不会是其它东西的味道。我们还会听到 “distinct possibility 极有可能的，几乎是肯定的”或者“distinct advantage 肯定的优势”，在这些表达里 distinct 起了强调作用，表示“强烈的、肯定的”。

Distinct 的第二个含义是表示“明显与其它因素不同的，容易区分开的”。比如：There were two distinct periods when flu outbreaks occurred. 流感有两段明显不同的爆发期。

我们再来看一看 distinctive。它也是形容词，意思是“容易鉴别的、特别的，有特色的、与众不同的”，它常被用来突出某个特点，也就是说由于某个特点的存在使其不同于其他的人或事物。比如：My sister has a distinctive voice, it’s very penetrating. 我姐姐的嗓音非常特别，穿透力极强。Distinctive 所强调的是独特之处，与众不同之处。

接下来，让我们通过情景剧场来体会这两个单词在现实生活中的各自用法和不同之处。情景一，教授在授课。

Example
My professor has a distinctive presentation style. He loves randomly picking students to join him on the stage.
我的教授授课方式别具一格，他特别喜欢随机挑选学生上台参与。

这里用 distinctive ，可以体现教授喜欢用观众上台参与的方式而使其授课方式独具风格。如果我们在这里把 distinctive 换成另一个近义词，最合适的选择是 unique，独特的。

The professor’s presentation focuses on two distinct topics.
教授的授课侧重于两个完全不同的主题。

当我们说起主题、区域、时段等，我们可以用 distinct 来强调“明显不同的”意思。这里 distinct 的近义词是 different ，不一样的。Distinct 也常常用于两个以上同类事物的对比。情景二，苏格兰的羊绒非常有名。

Examples
Cashmere is one of Scotland’s famous exports, it has a distinctive feel to it.
羊绒是苏格兰的著名出口商品之一，摸上去手感特别不一样。

There’s been a distinct decline in the production of Scottish cashmere due to competition from imported cashmere.
由于进口羊绒的竞争，苏格兰羊绒的产量出现了明显的下滑。

The French team had a distinct advantage because they were playing in France.

This cheese has a distinctive flavour and it’s not to everyone’s taste.
